BLENDING HORTICULTURE WITH HARDSCAPE USING
HERITAGE PLANTS IN NEW WAYS
is lead designer for JDP Studios. He has designed
gardens throughout the southeast. He is Chairman of the
Board South Carolina Botanical Garden at Clemson.
JDP, established by James Dabney Peeples in 1986,
makes its home in beautiful upstate South Carolina,
drawing its inspiration for landscape and garden design
from traditional Southern and European design
principles. Featured in publications such as Southern
Living, Better Homes and Gardens, and Greenville's Talk,
J. Dabney Peeples Design Associates, Inc. has
consistently found favor with those who appreciate the
beauty of artful and thoughtful garden design.
Dabney Peeples, Lead Designer
native of Mississippi and graduate of the Landscape
Architecture program at Mississippi State University,
Dabney Peeples began his landscape design career in
Birmingham, Alabama with Nimrod Long and Associates.
Subsequently, Dabney worked with Edward Daugherty in
Atlanta, Georgia before starting his own garden and
landscape design firm in Easley, SC. Dabney has become
locally reknowned for his ability to adapt historically
accepted design principles to fit the contemporary
lifestyles of his clients, and he has enjoyed teaching
about garden design at Furman University for over 20

DEEP ROOTED WISDOM
Jenks Farmer is a
garden designer and plantsman whose work includes for a
number of public gardens in South Carolina - The
Riverbanks Zoo Garden, Moore Farms and the Columbia
Historic District Gardens. His latest book, Deep Rooted
Wisdom, was released to much critical acclaim.

Jenkins Farmer III is a renaissance plantsman. He fell
in love with the natural world while growing up in a
family of artists, musicians, and farmers. Jenks went on
to get a more formal education in plant sciences at
Clemson University and then botanical garden design at
the University of Washington.
He is the former
director of Riverbanks Botanical Garden and founding
horticulturist of Moore Farms Garden. His designs for
homes, museums, and businesses have received recognition
and awards and have delighted hundreds of thousands of
visitors with the joyful, easy exuberance of
An engaging storyteller and
teacher, Jenks has a real talent for getting people of
all ages and from all walks of life to go outside and
get their hands dirty. He's also presented lectures for
groups as varied as the North Carolina State
Agricultural faculty, the Smithsonian, Wave Hill, Master
Gardener clubs, and, of course, his grandmother's
Allendale Ladies Afternoon Reading Club.

Horticulture. He is the author of the quarterly
publication Gardening with Crinum Lilies and
Deep Rooted Wisdom: Lessons Learned from Generations

for over 30 years, and loves to bring the garden's

art and festivities. Relying upon the beauty of spring
gardens, artists will set up their easels and paint "en
plein air," capturing on canvas the serene beauty
of the unique Southern garden. Following the two days of
relaxed garden strolling, join the celebratory Party and
Plein Air art display on Sunday afternoon at the Mint
Museum Randolph (casual attire).
